Consistent service, reliable hosting

I've been using WordPress.com for a few years now, mostly for small portfolio sites. My latest purchase was the 'WordPress Pro' plan for a new project. Just like my previous 'Business' plan, setting things up was straightforward. The site migration service they offer was a huge help, saved me a lot of time getting content over. No surprises, which is exactly what I want from a hosting provider. That reliability is why I keep coming back.

Easy setup, solid performance

Got the 'WordPress Business' plan. Setup was quick. Site works well. Jetpack Security is a plus. Happy with it.

Decent value, room for theme improvement

I got the 'WordPress Commerce' plan recently to build out an online store. The integration with WooCommerce was pretty seamless, and having SSL Certificates included was good for security. Delivery of the service was immediate, as expected for digital products. Customer service helped me when I had a small hiccup with a payment gateway setup, they were polite and efficient. The pricing for the features you get, especially with an annual plan discount, felt like a decent value. My only small gripe is that some of the 'Premium Themes' for e-commerce, while functional, felt a little dated compared to what's out there on other platforms. Still, a solid platform overall.

Good experience with new blog

I signed up for the 'WordPress Pro' plan last month to start a new personal blog. Ordering was simple enough on the website; I just picked the plan and added a custom domain. Delivery of the service itself was instant, of course, after payment. The setup wizard made getting the basic site running pretty easy, and I linked up Google Analytics without much fuss. I had a small question about connecting to my Titan Mail, and their support chat was responsive, got it sorted in about 15 minutes. The site performance has been solid, and the 'Premium Themes' included with the Pro plan look professional. Overall, a good experience for someone new to setting up a WordPress site.

My organization is a non-profit. Does WordPress.com offer any special pricing or discounts for non-profits?

B Ben Robinson 12 hours ago
I'm fairly certain they do. Most hosting providers have some kind of program for non-profits, so it'd be weird if they didn't.

Yeah, they usually have something for non-profits. Worth checking their specific page or contacting support.

I'm a student, trying to save some cash. Do they offer any kind of student discount on their plans?

A Amanda Phillips 1 week ago
Pretty sure they do, yeah. I remember seeing something about that when I was signing up.

Yep, there's a student discount. You usually have to verify your student status through some service though, like UNiDAYS or something similar.

Anyone got experience moving a site *off* WordPress.com? I'm thinking of starting there but want to know if I'm locked in or if it's a smooth process to switch hosts later.

B Brian Anderson 3 weeks ago
It's not too bad. You can export your content, but getting everything perfect on a new host can be a bit of a project depending on your theme and plugins.

They have a migration tool, I think. I haven't used it personally, but it's designed to make it easier.

Hey everyone, thinking about signing up for a yearly plan. Anyone know if the discount they advertise for the first year applies if I go with the monthly payment option?

M Michelle Phillips 4 weeks ago
Nah, pretty sure those big discounts are usually just for the annual plans. Monthly is almost always full price or close to it.

R Ryan Gomez 3 weeks ago
Yeah, I tried to get a monthly deal once and it didn't work. The coupon policy states it's for the first billing cycle of annual plans unless otherwise stated.

Thinking of getting the Pro plan. Can I install my own plugins on that, or is that only for the Business/Commerce plans?

B Brian T. 4 weeks ago
The Pro plan definitely lets you use plugins. That's one of the main reasons to go Pro over the cheaper options.

Z Zach Parker 4 weeks ago
Yep, plugins are good to go on Pro. That's where you start getting full WordPress functionality basically.

Is WordPress.com good for setting up an online store, or should I just go with Shopify from the start? Trying to decide between them.

R Ryan White 4 weeks ago
WordPress.com's Commerce plan with WooCommerce is pretty solid for e-commerce. You get a lot more flexibility than Shopify, especially if you want to customize things heavily.

G Grace T. 3 weeks ago
Shopify is simpler for pure e-commerce, but if you want more blog features or a custom feel, WordPress.com with WooCommerce is great. Just be ready for a bit more setup work.

What's the deal with their money-back guarantee? Is it easy to get a refund if I decide it's not for me within the first month?

S Susan Perez 3 weeks ago
I think I saw they have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Never had to use it myself though.

J Jacob Moore 3 weeks ago
Yeah, they do. I canceled a pro plan after a week because I went a different direction, and the refund was pretty quick. No hassle.
